India smashes record with best-ever medal haul at World Para Athletics Championships 2025

India have so far won 18 medals at the World Para Athletics Championships 2025.
India have made history on home soil at the World Para Athletics Championships 2025, achieving its best-ever medal haul even before the final day of the competition.
The Indian contingent has so far claimed 18 medals including 6 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze surpassing its previous best haul of 17 medals (6 gold, 5 silver, 6 bronze) achieved in Kobe 2024 where they finished sixth in the standings.

India are placed sixth in the medal table in New Delhi too with one more day of action remaining. With a record 73 athletes taking part, this has been a dream week for Indian para sports.
On the opening day, Shailesh Kumar won India’s first gold medal with a personal and Asian best of 1.91m. His incredible jump also set a new World Para Athletics Championships record in men’s high jump T63 category.
One of the most inspiring moments came from Nishad Kumar, who celebrated his 26th birthday by winning his first-ever world title in the men’s high jump T47 event. He cleared a stunning 2.14 meters, setting a new Asian record and defeating his long-time rival, five-time world champion Roderick Townsend of the USA.
Simran Sharma added to India’s golden run with a dazzling performance in the women’s 100m T12 sprint, clocking a personal best of 11.95 seconds to secure gold.
Meanwhile, Sumit Antil once again proved his dominance by clinching his third consecutive world championship gold in the F64 javelin throw. The double Paralympic champion threw 71.37 meters, setting a new championship record.

India also celebrated a historic 1-2 finish in two events at the ongoing championships. First Rinku Hooda and Sundar Singh Gurjar produced a thrilling double podium finish in men’s javelin throw F46 event.
Days later, Sandip Sanjay Sargar and Sandeep Chaudhary accomplished the same feat in men’s javelin F44 event.
On the penultimate day, Ekta Bhyan won silver in the women’s F51 club throw with a season-best performance which also marked her third consecutive medal at the World Championships.
