India won two golds and two silvers on Day 4.

What a day it was for India at the World Para Athletics Championships 2025 in front of home crowd. On September 30 (Thursday), the nation added four medals, two gold and two silver, taking their overall tally to nine.

India celebrated a 1-2 finish in men’s javelin F44. Sandip Sanjay Sargar had a day to remember as he won gold with a personal best throw of 62.82m.

He started with 61.51m on his first attempt and improved steadily with 62.11m and 62.68m in his second and third attempts, which stood as the leading mark until he surpassed it in the fifth attempt. His fourth and sixth throws were slightly lower at 61.18m and 60.95m.

However, for the 32-year-old, this was a major comeback from his fifth-place finish at the 2024 World Championships in Kobe and seventh place at the Paris Paralympics, where his best throw had been just 58.03m.

On the other hand, Sandeep Chaudhary bagged silver in the same event with 62.67m of best effort, showing once again why he is one of India’s most reliable para-athletes. His series included throws of 62.33m, a foul, 60.49m, 62.06m, 62.67m, and 59.69m.

Chaudhary is no stranger to success, he won gold at the 2019 World Championships in Dubai with a world record throw of 66.18m, and has also picked up silver medals at the Worlds in Kobe and the Asian Para Games in Jakarta. At the Paris Paralympics last year, he narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth.

There were two more Indians in the event who performed well but missed the bronze. Pushpendra Singh missed out on the podium but achieved a season-best throw of 61.94m, while Mahendra Gurjar finished seventh with a best effort of 57.84m.

Another star of the show in India’s Day 4 success was Sumit Antil, who once again proved why he’s the best in the world. The reigning Paralympic champion and world record holder in the men’s javelin F64 clinched gold with a monstrous 71.37m throw.

This improved his own championship record of 70.83m set in July 2023. The 27-year-old opened with 65.59m, went up to 68.40m in his fourth attempt, and then sealed it in the fifth with 71.37m.

None of his competitors managed to cross even 50m until late in the contest. His teammate Pradeep Kumar finished fifth with 42.72m.

In the men’s discus throw F56, Yogesh Kathuniya continued his incredible consistency in the Worlds. He won silver with a best throw of 42.49m, behind Brazil’s Claudiney Batista (45.67m). Greece’s Konstantinos Tzounis took bronze with 39.97m.

This marked Kathuniya’s third straight silver medal at the world championships (2023, 2024, 2025). He also owns Paralympic silver medals from Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, plus a bronze from the 2019 Worlds.

There were commendable efforts elsewhere as well. Keerthika Jayachandran set a personal best of 6.25m to finish sixth in the women’s shot put F54. In the men’s long jump T12, Vishu registered 6.24m for another personal best, finishing sixth overall.

Meanwhile, Sprinter Banothu Akira Nandan impressed in the men’s 400m T38 heats, qualifying for the final with a personal best of 50.55s.

In the women’s shot put F34, Bhagyashri Madhavrao Jadhav produced a season best of 7.67m to finish sixth. Meanwhile, in the men’s shot put F11, Monu Ghangas placed tenth with 10.87m while Sagar finished seventh at 11.74m.
