Mumbai Pickle Power gave the Dilli Dillwalle a tough run for their money as their encounter in the World Pickleball League (WPBL) at the Jio World Garden in Mumbai finished 2-3 in the latter’s favour.
Jada Bui helped Mumbai commence the encounter in cracking style with a 21-8 win against Mihae Kwon, who used to play for the Pickle Power last year.
In the mixed doubles fixture, Brandon Lane and Glauka Carvajal Lane were found wanting against the pairing of Max Manthou alongside Trang Huynh. The latter emerged triumphant by 17-5, but Mumbai bounced back courtesy of Max Green clinching a 15-10 win over Vien Hien Truong.
This is where the game ended up taking a sharp turn, adding abundant excitement to the fixture altogether. The women’s doubles game saw Glauka and Sabrina Mendez battle it out in a gritty 9-9 draw in front of Huynh and Alejandra Lopez.
The following men’s doubles encounter was sealed by Dilli as Erik Lange and Max Manthou rounded off a 13-7 result against Brandon and Santhosh Narayanan.
The fixture then headed to the mixed doubles’ tie-breaker, where Max and Huynh notched a 10-3 win over Narayanan and Glauka.
What’s next for both teams?
Mumbai Pickle Power play their next game against the Chennai Super Champs on January 29, where they would be raring to gather their armouries and bounce back to secure their first win of the season. Dilli, on the other hand, will return to action on January 30 against the Bengaluru Jawans.
