ISSF World Championships 2023: India bag gold in 10m Air Rifle mixed team event

India currently occupy the second spot in the medals tally

India’s teenage duo of Shiva Narwal (18) and Esha Singh (17) defeat Turkey’s defeat Turkey’s Tarhan/Dikec (16-10) to clinch gold in 10m Air Pistol mixed event at the ISSF World Championships 2023. This victory also opens India’s gold medal tally and overall this is the eighth gold medal at the ISSF World Championships.

After a below average opening day, Indian shooting contingent has shown temperament to bounce back well in the second day. However the mixed team event isn’t part of the Olympics but nevertheless winning a gold medal at the World’s is a big achievement.

Shiva Narwal and Esha Singh finished the qualification stage on the top spot ahead of Turkey and China. The Indian pair scored 583-20x to finish on the top and qualified for the gold medal match. In the final, the young duo had a great start (4-0) but lost three successive series next to trail (4-6). But the Indian duo came back strongly without faltering and trailed only once in the entire final.

Other Indians in the fray, Aishwary Pratap Singh and Mehuli Ghosh finished ninth in 10m Air Rifle Mixed team event while Ramita and Divyansh finish 17th in the same.

In the shotgun events, Parinaaz Dhaliwal was the top ranked at 19th (118), followed by Ganemat Sekhon at 21st (118) and Darshna Rathore at 38th (115) in the women’s individual skeet qualification. In the women’s skeet team event, the trio of Parinaaz, Sekhon, and Darshna finished fourth scoring 351 just ahead of Cyprus who finished fifth by scoring 350. Also by the virtue of finishing fourth, the women’s team has progressed to the final.

India currently occupy the second spot in the medals tally by securing a gold and bronze each. China sit pretty on top by securing five gold and two bronze medals at the ISSF World Championships 2023.
