Asian Games 2023: Kynan Darius Chenai bags bronze in men’s Trap event

Indian shooting contingent finished the continental meet with a total of 22 medals.

India's Kynan Darius Chenai bagged the bronze medal in men’s Trap final at the Asian Games 2023. With a final score of 32 out of 40 Kynan, Chenai secured the third spot in the event. In addition to Kynan, Indian shooter Zoravar Singh Sandhu also successfully qualified for the final round. Both Indian athletes commenced their final journey by attaining a score in four out of five shots in the initial round.

By the conclusion of the third round, Kynan secured the second position with a commendable score of 13 out of 15, while Sandhu found himself in sixth place, accumulating a total of 12 points. Subsequently, after the conclusion of the sixth round, Sandhu faced elimination, having achieved a cumulative score of 23.

Meanwhile, Kynan remained in contention, holding the fourth position and striving for a spot among the top three participants. At the end Kynan grabbed a podium finish with a bronze medal while China’s Qi Ying and Kuwait’s Alrashidi Talal secured the first and second position with 46 and 45 points respectively.

In the final of the women's Trap event, Manisha Keer from India was the sole participant to secure a place with the other finalists. However, the commencement was not ideal for the Asian Games silver medalist. In the midst of intense competition, despite taking 25 shots, she was able to accumulate only 16 points, resulting in her unfortunate elimination from the final round.

Earlier in the day, Manisha Keer along with Rajeshwari Kumari and Preeti Rajak secured silver in women’s Trap team event with a total of 337 points, while Kynan Darius Chenai along with Zoravar Singh and Prithviraj Tondaiman clinched gold in Men's Trap team event.

India is still placed in the fourth place of the medals tally with 13 golds, 16 silver and 16 bronze medal.
