The Indians though are surely going to be up to the task. Manu Bhaker will be pumped up entering the tie, having just become the first Indian female shooter to medal at the Olympics, with her bronze in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event. She ended the nation’s 12-year wait for an Olympic medal in the sport.
Sarabjot Singh, on the other hand, will be looking for redemption. Having entered Paris as a gold medal prospect, he missed out on a spot in the final of the Men’s 10m Air Pistol event by a whisker. He had the same number of points as Robin Walter at eighth place, but the German qualified as he had one inner ten more than that of the Indian.
Manu Bhaker started off where she had left, with a total of 98 in the first series. However, Sarabjot again had a slow start, and started with a 95 (including a hattrick of 9s). As a result, the team comprising two twenty-two-year-olds, were only just managing to remain in the top 10.
The second series saw Sarabjot well and truly finding his rhythm. Despite scoring an 8 late in the series, he managed to get a total of 97 in the series. Manu again excelled with a sensational 98. While their consistency in the second series brought them into the second spot, the 8 from Sarabjot resulted in the team falling by two spots.
