Manu Bhaker aims to win her second medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Fresh from a bronze medal-winning feat, Manu Bhaker will have a chance to relive it on Tuesday as she, along with Sarabjot Singh, qualified for the third-place match in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Sarabjot Singh was slow to get off the blocks, as he hit 9s on five occasions in his first eight shots.

But Manu, the new Olympic medalist, showed no signs of nervousness as she shot 98/100. What followed next in the second series were moments of brilliance as the pair together started with 10 consecutive 10s. But, an 8 in Sarabjot’s 19th shot meant that the pair dropped from second place to fourth place.

The standings were a pendulum with every shot as the pairs kept moving after each shot. As the famous saying goes, ‘when the going gets tough the gets going’ and the numerous hours of hard practice came to the fore as the pair’s precision was brilliant.

The duo scored 580 with 20 inner tens to finish third in the table. They were short by one point to qualify for the gold medal match. Nevertheless, the pair will have a chance at history.

It was a disappointing day for the other pair of Rhythm Sangwan and Arjun Cheema Singh. The duo started off on a precise note with shots of 10. Especially from the 20-year-old Sangwan, who scored 10s on seven occasions in her first eight shots.

Her partner Arjun followed suit to push them to the top four after the first series. While Sangwan continued her great run scoring 99/100 in the second series, Arjun stumbled under pressure, which pushed the team down to eighth place at the end of the second series.

Arjun took a break and did make a comeback scoring 98/100, which included eight consecutive 10s, but it wasn’t enough for them to get into medal contention, with Sangwan scoring 92 only. Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh will be competing for the bronze medal on Tuesday.
