India record best-ever medal tally at Asian Aquatics Championships

The Indian contingent recorded its best-ever swimming and diving campaign at the Asian Aquatics Championships 2025, currently taking place at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad.
Notably, Wednesday (October 1) was the final day of the swimming and diving events at the 11th edition of the continental event. The competition will continue with the Artistic Swimming and Water Polo events from October 4.
India secured four medals on Wednesday, which increased their tally to 13 (four silver and nine bronze). Bhavya Sachdeva secured a bronze medal at the women’s 400m freestyle with a timing of 4:26.89, while Sajan Prakash finished third in the men’s 200m Butterfly event after clocking a timing of 1:57.90.
Srihari Nataraj ended with a bronze medal in the men’s 100m backstroke with a time of 49.96s. The men’s 4x100m freestyle relay team comprising Aneesh S Gowda, Shoan Ganguly, Sajan Prakash, and Srihari Nataraj, clinched a bronze medal with its timing of 3:21.49.

Other Medal winners for India at Asian Aquatics Championships 2025
Indiver Sairem and Willson Sing Ningthoujam created history as they won their first-ever medal in the men’s synchronized 10m platform event at the Asian Aquatics Championships. They scored a total of 300.66 points to finish with a bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Srihari Nataraj had bagged another medal in the men’s 50 m backstroke event. He won the silver medal with his timing of 25.46s. With this performance, the 16-year-old had already become the first-ever Indian swimmer to win two continental medals at a single edition.
The 4×200m freestyle relay team (Aneesh S Gowda, Sajan Prakash, Shoan Ganguly, Srihari Nataraj) won the silver medal with their timing of 7:23.38.
India’s men’s 4x100m medley relay team (Srihari Nataraj, Rishabh Das, Likith Selvaraj Prema, Benedicton R. Beniston) clinched a bronze medal with their timing of 3:40.87.
In the men’s 1500 m freestyle event, Kushagra Rawat finished with a bronze medal after clocking a time of 15:30.88.

The men’s 200m backstroke event witnessed Rishabh Das clocking a time of 2:02.64 and finishing with a bronze medal. Meanwhile, Srihari Nataraj achieved a timing of 1:48.47 to win the silver medal in the men’s 200m freestyle event.
Benedicton R. Beniston created history by breaking his national record in the men’s 50m butterfly event. With his timing of 23.89s, he secured a silver medal as he became the first Indian to go sub-24.
In total, India won 12 medals (four silver and eight bronze) in the swimming events and secured a solitary bronze in the diving events.
