Karolina Muchova is set to take on top seed and WR 1 Iga Swiatek in women’s singles for the French Open 2023 title on Saturday (June 10th). The two have faced each other once way back in 2019 in the Prague Open, Karolina Muchova defeated the top seed in three games and since then have never met each other. Swiatek has been in tremendous form and started the tournament by winning against Cristina Bucsa. The WR 1 did not face any hiccups on the road to the final and won all her matches inside two sets. Her only major test was against Coco Gauff in the quarter-finals but she beat her convincingly (6-4, 6-2). Unseeded Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova was a surprise to many who progressed to her first grand slam final.
Muchov,26, earlier had reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open but couldn’t progress further. She is going to face a stern test against Iga Swiatek in the final. Muchova in the opening round upset eighth seed Maria Sakkari and in the semi-finals defeated second seed Aryna Sabalenka who was one of the favourites to reach the final.
