Rohan Bopanna reaches World Rank 7 in men's doubles

The Indo-Australian pair are currently ranked second in the road to the ATP finals.

India's top-ranked Rohan Bopanna rose up by five spots to World Rank seven in men's doubles in the ATP Rankings. His partner from Australia Matthew Ebden breached inside the top 10 and is currently ranked in the tenth spot rising up by six positions. The Indo-Australian duo had a great run in the recently concluded Wimbledon Open 2023 - finishing as semi-finalists.

The 43-year-old Warhose has been maintaining good consistency throughout the 2023 season. He became the oldest to win an ATP Masters title alongside Matthew Ebden at the Indian Wells Open. Although the pair did not have a good French Open outing, they bounced back to reach the semi-finals in the 136th edition of the prestigious Wimbledon Championships losing to Neil Skupski and Wesley Koolhof in straight sets.

This run helped both leapfrog several top-ranked players and get into the top 10 rankings. The pair is also placed second in the road to the Nitto ATP finals - only the top 8 pairs based on their performance this year will qualify for the tournament.

Bopanna, 43, joined hands with Matthew Ebden this year after the partnership with Mattwe Middelkoop came to an end. The new Indo-Australian pair started their campaign with two consecutive opening-round losses - Adelaide International and Australian Open. The pair then settled down and combined well to reach two successive finals - ATP Rotterdam and Qatar Open. Post the initial run, the partnership has been fruitful with both experienced players gelling well. Ebden on the other hand won the Wimbledon last year and this year was close to reaching the final but a semi-final run was enough for him to reach the top 10.

As per the current rankings, five Indian players are stationed inside the top 100 (Yuki Bhambri - 64, Saketh Myneni - 81, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan - 93, and Sriram Balaji - 97), and are closely followed by youngster Anirudh Chandrasekhar ranked 110, Arjun Khade at 123 and Vijay Sundar Prasanth at 124.
