Welcome to Khel Now's live blog for the Marketa Vondrousova vs Ons Jabeur, women's singles final match at Wimbledon 2023. Wait for 30 seconds for the blog to load.

Sixth seed Ons Jabeur is set to take on unseeded player from Czech Republic Marketa Vondrousova in the women’s singles final at Wimbledon 2023. Tunisian Ons Jabeur got through to the final by defeating two higher ranked players — 2022 champion Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka, both in three games.

The match against the latter was an intense battle which lasted for more than two hours. Jabeur had a two-point lead in the tie break (4-2), but Sabalenka came back strongly to win five of the last six points available to take the opening set. The 28-year-old Tunisian then fought back to defeat the world number two comprehensively (6-7, 6-4, 6-3).

On the other hand, WR-42 Marketa Vondrousova enroute to the final defeated four seeded players and in the quarter-finals created a major upset by defeating fourth seed Jessica Pegula of the USA. She then defeated unseeded Elina Svitolina in the semi-finals, who in the previous round had knocked out the favourite and the WR-1 Iga Swiatek.

Preview: Marketa Vondrousova vs Ons Jabeur

The head-to-head record remains even stevens going into the final, but Vandrousova has got the better of sixth seed Ons Jabeur twice this year – most recently in the third round of Indian Wells Masters. However, post the French Open second round exit, the Czech Republican hasn’t played much barring the German Open in Berlin where she finished as the quarter-finalists. Next, she was scheduled to face Ons Jabeur in opening round of Eastbourne International, but the match got cancelled.

Vondrousova became the first unseeded women’s singles player to reach the final of Wimbledon Championships in the Open Era. The Tokyo Olympics silver medallist had been out of action due to injury for majority of 2022 but has made a strong comeback on the grass court. She started the season by reaching the third round of Australian Open and has since made steady progress.

The final at Wimbledon will be her second grand slam final overall — having lost in the French Open final to Australia’s Ashleigh Barty in 2019.

On the other hand, Ons Jabeur, post her quarter-finals finish in the clay of French Open, has not had a great time on the grass circuit. She lost in the opening round of German Open against unseeded Julie Niemeier and followed it with a last 16 exit at Eastbourne against another unseeded opponent, Camila Giorgi.

Overall, this will be Tunisian star’s third grand slam final and second consecutive at Wimbledon — she was beaten by Elena Rybakina in three sets last year.

Jabeur will look to get better of Marketa Vondrousova and claim her first ever grand slam title in the 136th edition of Wimbledon Championships. A win here can also see Jabeur entering the top five in the WTA women’s singles rankings and simultaneously getting close to her career best rank of WR-2.
