Carlos Alcaraz becomes fourth player since 2000 to register 50 wins in consecutive seasons before turning 21

Young Spaniard recently won the Wimbledon Championships defeating Novak Djokovic
Carlos Alcaraz has secured his 50th win of the season in a personal best time by defeating Jordan Thompson 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in his opening match of Cincinnati Masters 2023 on Wednesday night. With the first-round victory at Cincinnati, Alcaraz is now the fourth player since 2000 to win 50 games in back-to-back seasons before turning 21.
Wimbledon Championships 2023 winner now has a 50-5 win-loss record this year and is looking for his seventh title of 2023 to add to his title wins in Buenos Aires, Indian Wells, Barcelona, Madrid, Queen’s Club and Wimbledon.
Other players to have achieved this feat are Lleyton Hewitt, Andy Roddick and Rafael Nadal. The 20-year-old Spaniard and Cincinnati Open 2023 top seed reached the milestone in his 12th tournament of the year. Last year he obtained his 50th match win in the US Open semi-finals, his 14th tournament of the season.
Carlos Alcaraz got to the half century mark by getting the better off Australia’s Jordon Thompson in three sets. Thompson came back strongly after losing the opening set but the game play of Alcaraz in the third was unmatchable.
Alcaraz and Djokovic battle for top spot at Cincinnati Masters 2023
Mere weeks after the memorable summit clash at Wimbledon, which was decided in a five-setter, Alcaraz and Djokovic are playing again for the No.1 ranking, which Alcaraz currently holds onto by just 600 points. The battle for the top spot in the ATP rankings between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic continues at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.

Should the Spaniard reach the final, he will retain the No. 1 position heading into the US Open, else Djokovic will have the chance to reclaim the top spot. Also if Alcaraz advances to the semi-finals, then the Serb will have to reach the final to have a shot at the World No. 1 ranking. Assuming Djokovic retakes the top spot this week, he will have an opportunity to retain it through the US Open.
