Saketh Myneni has won a total of three medal at the Continental meet.
India and Taiwan faced off in the men’s doubles final at the Asian Games 2023 with the gold medal at stake. The Indian duo of Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan lost to Yu-hsiou Hsu and Jason Jung in straight sets (4-6, 4-6) and settled for the silver medal.
The Indian duo defeated the Korean pair of Seongchan Hong and Soonwoo Kwon 6-1 6-7(6) 10-0 to move into the title clash while Yu-hsiou Hsu and Jason Jung got the better of Thai rivals, Pruchya Isaro and Parapol Maximus Jones in their semifinal match.
In the final, Taiwan got off to a good start, claiming the first set aided by a break of serve in the fifth game, 6-4 in 35 minutes. In the second set, Myneni dropped serve in the ninth game to hand the Taiwanese a 5-4 lead. Their opponents made the most of it and wrapped up the match, 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 12 minutes.
Had the Indian duo prevailed, it would have been Myneni’s second Asian Games gold, having won a mixed doubles gold in the company of Sania Mirza in mixed doubles at the 2014 edition.
At the conclusion of the men’s doubles final, India has ten silver medals and 28 overall, moving up to fourth position on the medals table. There is an opportunity for India to add yet another medal to their tally when the mixed doubles semifinal gets underway later today.
