The Serbian will be playing in his fourth Grand Slam final this season.

Daniil Medvedev ousted defending champion Carlos Alcaraz to reach the final in men's singles at US Open 2023. The third seed prevailed in their semi-final encounter, 7-6(3), 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the third US Open final of his career. On the other side will be the man he defeated at Flushing Meadows two years ago to claim his first Grand Slam title, Novak Djokovic.

In 2021, Medvedev overcame Djokovic to deny the Serbian the opportunity to emulate Rod Laver's record and become the first man since the Australian legend to complete a calendar Grand Slam. The Belgrade native lost to Medvedev in straight sets. On Sunday (September 10th), the Russian World No. 3 will stand in the way of Djokovic as he seeks to secure a record 24th Grand Slam.

The Serbian, who will take over as World No. 1 after the US Open 2023 winds up, has reached all four major finals this year. Should the 36-year-old against Medvedev, he will equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 Majors and be the oldest man to win in US Open in the Open Era. Australia's Ken Roswell was 35 when he triumphed at the US Open back in 1970 and continues to be the oldest in the Open Era.

Novak Djokovic defeated big-serving American Ben Shelton in the semi-final in straight sets (6-3, 6-2, 7-6(4)) to reach his 10th US Open final. The Serbian had a clear path to the final, having played only one five-setter overall. His opponents in the run-up to the finals were Alexandre Muller, Bernabe Zapata Miralles, countryman Laslo Djere, who stretched him to five sets, Borna Gojo, Taylor Fritz, and Ben Shelton.

Medvedev’s list of vanquished opponents includes Attila Balazs, Christopher O'Connell, Sebastian Baez, Alex de Minaur, Andrey Rublev, and finally, the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.
