By Rizu Shukla
The Russian is yet to open his account in the competition.
Andrey Rublev, who has suffered two losses at the hands of Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev, will take on Alexander Zverev in the final group stage encounter at ATP Finals 2023. Unlike Rublev, seventh-seed Zverev won his opening round clash against former world number one Carlos Alcaraz but went down in the subsequent match to Daniil Medvedev.
The German needs a win to stay intact and proceed to the semifinals of season-ending prestigious competition.
Andrey Rublev vs Alexander Zverev preview
Andrey Rublev is coming off two consecutive defeats at the group stage. With his 7-5, 6-2 loss over Alcaraz on Wednesday, the Russian helped World No. 2 maintain his hopes of making it to the ATP Finals round of four. Over the majority of the opening set, Rublev performed well to stay up with Alcaraz but ultimately faltered.
Talking about Zverev, he has won one group stage match and fought hard against top favourite Medvedev. After falling behind early in the first set against Medvedev, the German fought back to square the match and force a tiebreaker. Prediction
When it comes to skill and recent performance, these players are very similar. Each player will likely serve exceptionally well in this encounter. But if the sets are very lengthy, Rublev’s level of fitness ought to matter and would help stop or give a tough battle to Zverev. Even though Rublev has won two titles on clay this year, he has consistently performed well on hard courts.
Andrey Rublev has a terrible record against Zverev, even though he has been playing some of his best tennis lately and he has also lost both of his recent matches in the tournament. Zverev is winning this one if he is 100% fit, as he can compete with anyone on the circuit with the kind of serving he has demonstrated previously.
