Former world number one Carlos Alcaraz is scheduled to take on Russia’s Andrey Rublev in the second group stage encounter at ATP Finals 2023. The Spaniard lost to seventh seed Alexander Zverev in the opening match in intense three-setter. Alcaraz has not had a good start in his maiden outing in the season ending tournament.
Prior to the competition, Alcaraz lost to 18th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the pre-quarterfinals at Shanghai Masters and then lost to Roman Safiullin in the opening round at Paris Masters. With two back-to-back losses, Alcaraz has lost the chance of reaching the coveted world no.1 spot in the ATP singles rankings.
On the other hand, Andrey Rublev also faced an opening round defeat to countrymate Daniil Medvedev. Compared to Alcaraz, Rublev had good experience of taking part in the ATP Finals and has played in crunch situations before.
