Rafael Nadal registered 138 wins in 2005 and 2006.
Carlos Alcaraz, the 20-year-old sensation from Spain, has achieved a remarkable feat in the world of tennis. He has become the first player under 21 years of age to win over 120 matches in the ATP Tour across two seasons since his compatriot Rafael Nadal did so in 2005 and 2006.
Alcaraz has won 121 matches in 2022 and 2023, surpassing the likes of Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev in terms of victories. He has also claimed 12 ATP titles, including two Grand Slam titles at the US Open 2022, Wimbledon CHampionships 2023, and four Masters 1000 titles. He has risen to the world No. 1 ranking, becoming the youngest player and the first teenager in the Open Era to do so.
In September 2022, Alcaraz achieved his biggest breakthrough, winning his first Grand Slam title at the US Open. He defeated Casper Ruud in the final, becoming the youngest US Open champion in history and the first Spaniard to win the title since Nadal in 2019. He also became the first player born in the 2000s to win a Grand Slam title.
In 2023, Alcaraz consolidated his position as the world’s best player, winning six more titles, including his second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon. He defeated seven-time and defending champion Djokovic in the final, becoming the first player since Roger Federer in 2003 to win Wimbledon on his debut. He also won three more Masters 1000 titles, at Indian Wells, Madrid, and Shanghai, and reached the semifinals at the French Open, where he lost to Nadal in a classic five-setter.
Regarded as the heir apparent to Rafael Nadal, the iconic figure in Spanish tennis, Carlos Alcaraz, has garnered acclaim for his remarkable talent, work ethic, and humility. Nadal, with a staggering 22 Grand Slam titles, including an unprecedented 14 French Open crowns, has extolled Alcaraz’s virtues, serving as both a mentor and an inspiration. Their practice sessions and Nadal’s guidance have played a pivotal role in shaping Alcaraz’s journey.
Expressing deep admiration for Nadal, Alcaraz regards him as an idol while aspiring to forge his own distinct legacy and style, distinct from comparisons to the maestro.
