Australia to clash against Italy for glory.
Australia secured its spot in the Davis Cup 2023 final for the second consecutive year, after defeating Finland in fine fashion. Alexander De Minaur’s commanding win against Emil Ruusuvuori in the singles clash, solidified their place in the championship clash.
The path to the final wasn’t easy, as Popyrin set the tone earlier in the semi-final clash with a hard-fought victory over Otto Virtanen. However, it was De Minaur’s unwavering determination that ultimately propelled the Australian team to the summit, showcasing resilience even in the face of initial setbacks.
De Minaur’s display of mental fortitude and skill was evident, particularly in his recovery from an early setback in the match. Despite moments of resistance from Ruusuvuori, De Minaur’s relentless pursuit and strategic play allowed him to seize control and secure pivotal points.
Meanwhile, Italy got the better of Serbia to reach the final. Jannik Sinner recorded his second win over world no.1 Novak Djokovic in as many weeks which set the tone for Italy to take centre stage. After losing in the final of ATP Finals last week, Sinner made a good comeback to defeat ‘Nole’ in three sets.
