Novak Djokovic debut in United Cup this year.

As the 2023 tennis season wraps up, the stage is set for the United Cup 2024. This international hard-court tennis tournament, which debuted in December 2022, has quickly become a highlight of the tennis calendar. The United Cup is unique in its format, featuring mixed-gender teams from 18 countries and offering both ATP and WTA ranking points to its players—a first in the history of the sport.

The United Cup brings together 18 teams in a mixed-team contest, divided into six groups of three. In the group stage, teams face off in round-robin matches, competing against the other two teams in their group. The group winners from each city move on to the quarterfinals, and the best runner-up in each city also secures a quarterfinal spot. The journey continues with the victorious team progressing to the semifinals and ultimately the final.

The tournament will take place in two cities in Australia: Sydney and Perth, running from December 29 to January 7. The group stage matches, and the quarterfinals will be played in both cities, with Sydney serving as the sole venue for the semifinals and championship match.

Last year, Team USA clinched the United Cup, defeating Italy 3-0 in the final. Jessica Pegula and Frances Tiafoe each contributed crucial points, setting the stage for Taylor Fritz to solidify that lead. Fritz’s straight-set victory over Matteo Berrettini ultimately propelled the Americans to title-winning glory.

The 2024 United Cup promises to be even more exciting. Both the ATP and WTA World No. 1s are set to participate, with Novak Djokovic making his tournament debut.

With such a star-studded lineup and a unique format that brings together the best of both men’s and women’s tennis, the 2024 United Cup is set to serve up some thrilling tennis experiences. So, mark your calendars and get ready for another year of exciting matches!
