Swiatek is on her 18-match winning streak
Iga Swiatek, the world No. 1, will face Linda Noskova, a 19-year-old rising star, in the third round of the Australian Open 2024 on Saturday, January 20.
Swiatek had a tough battle against Collins, the 2022 finalist, in the second round on Thursday. She won the first set 6-4 but lost the second set 3-6. She was trailing 1-4 in the final set, but staged a remarkable comeback and won the set 6-4, avenging her loss to the American two years ago.
Noskova, on the other hand, reached her first Slam third round with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 win over American wildcard Kessler in the second round. She had also beaten Bouzkova, a fellow Czech, in the first round in one hour and thirty-seven minutes.
Iga Swiatek vs Linda Noskova preview
Swiatek extended her winning run to eighteen matches with a stunning comeback against Collins, the unseeded American, in the second round on Thursday. She used her backhand skills to overcome a tough challenge from Collins, who pushed her to the limit with her power and speed in the second set.
Swiatek was down 4-1 in the final set, after winning the first set and breaking early in the second set, on Rod Laver Arena. But she fought back and won five consecutive games to seal the victory. She held off Collins’ aggressive attacks with her solid groundstrokes.
Noskova, who also teamed up with Wang Xiyu in doubles, beat Kessler with a commendable performance. The match was evenly poised until the final stages of the third set when Noskova broke Kessler’s serve at 5-4 and won the match. The Czech reached her first grand slam third round with this win. The 19-year-old Noskova had also reached the Adelaide final last year, showing her adaptability to the Australian conditions.

Prediction
Poland’s Swiatek is fully aware of the threat her opponent offers. She is on an 18-match winning streak and is aiming for her fifth major trophy this fortnight. Following an undefeated singles campaign at the United Cup, she currently stands at 7-0 on Australian soil this year.
Talking about the Pole’s Czech opponent, she had recently experienced significant success down under. Noskova, who was ranked as high as No. 40 last year, gained prominence after reaching the Adelaide finals the previous year, battled her to the semifinals in Brisbane before losing to not-so-easy opponent Elena Rybakina. For the first time, she has advanced to the third round of a Grand Slam at the 2024 Australian Open after defeating 31st seed and fellow countrywoman Bouzkova as well as wildcard Kessler proving herself to be a promising tennis player in the future.
However, Swiatek is a much more experienced and higher-ranked player who has proven her power with a comeback win, not for the first time though. She has gone through a difficult draw since the first round. The top seed is expected to go past this one as well, against the player who is experiencing the main draw for the first time in the Australian Open.
Result: Swiatek to win in straight sets
