Frenchman Mannarino is eyeing a first quarter-final at Grand Slams.
World No.1 and 10-time defending champion Novak Djokovic will face Adrian Mannarino in the men’s singles fourth round of the Australian Open 2024.
The Novak Djokovic train rolls on in the Australian Open 2024 as it moves into its second week. Djokovic avoided the fate of the two high-profile exits suffered by Andy Murray to Tomás Martín Etcheverry (6-4, 6-2, 6-2), Holger Rune to wildcard Arthur Cazaux (7-6(4), 6-4, 4-6, 6-3), and finally Ben Shelton to Adrian Mannarino (7-6(4), 1-6, 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-4). Rune, seeded eighth, is the highest seed to be knocked out.
Adrian Mannarino, the 35-year-old Frenchman, reached a career-high ranking of 19 at the ongoing Australian Open. Mannarino won three titles in 2023 at Sofia, Astana and Newport and is now in the fourth round against defending champion and top seed Novak Djokovic. His biggest win against a top 10 was over No. 5 Marin Cilic to reach the finals of the 2017 Tokyo Open.
Novak Djokovic vs Adrian Mannarino Preview
Djokovic appears to have shaken off the early rust from his match against Croatian qualifier Dino Prizmic, posting a comfortable straight-set victory over Tomás Martín Etcheverry (6-3, 6-3, 7-6(2)). A quarter-final match against 2023 Australian Open runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas looks all the more probable now. Tsitsipas will be taking on Taylor Fritz in his fourth-round match on Sunday.
Adrian Mannarino has equalled his best performance at the Australian Open – he reached the round of 16 against Rafael Nadal in the 2022 Australian Open. Mannarino saw the back of Stan Wawrinka, the 2014 Australian Open champion in the first round and the US Open 2023 semifinalist Ben Shelton. The match against Shelton clocked four hours and 46 minutes.
