Daniil Medvedev vs Alexander Zverev: Head-to-head record
The two will fight for a place in the Australian Open 2024 final.
World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev and No. 6 Alexander Zverev are all set to face each other in the second men’s singles semi-final of the Australian Open 2024 which will be held at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. Although Medvedev and Zverev will be facing one other for the 19th time, this will be their first meeting at the Grand Slam level.
In an entertaining quarter-final match, Alexander Zverev defeated Carlos Alcaraz, despite the Spaniard mounting a valiant comeback. After making a quick start, the German defeated Alcaraz 6-1 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 6-4 to reach the last four of the major. On the other hand, Medvedev defeated Hubert Hurkacz in five sets, winning 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to go to the semifinals.
Medvedev had to overcome formidable opponents including Hubert Hurkacz, Terence Atmane, Emil Ruusuvuori, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Nuno Borges on his challenging route to the final four. All of his matches lasted four sets or longer, with the exception of his showdown with Auger-Aliassime in the third round.
On the other hand, for the German, the new season got off to a great start under Zverev’s leadership as Team Germany won the United Cup. He proceeded to the semifinal in the Australian Open by defeating players such as Dominik Koepfer, Lucas Klein, Alex Michelson, Cameron Norrie and Alcaraz, demonstrating his consistent form.
The German defeated the Spanish sensation in four sets, appearing to be in total control of the match, while Medvedev was pushed all the way by Hurkacz in a hectic five-set battle. Zverev’s triumph over Carlos Alcaraz will undoubtedly go down as one of the most spectacular of the season, even though it is still early in the season. He is currently quite self-assured. Not only does he have the most wins in 2024, but he also feels very good about himself having upset a tournament favourite.
