The WTA 1000 series is a collection of prestigious women’s tennis tournaments that are held throughout the year as part of the WTA Tour. The WTA 1000 series is the second-highest category of events on the tour, after the Grand Slams and the WTA Finals. The winner of each WTA 1000 event receives 1000 ranking points, which makes these tournaments highly competitive and attractive for the leading female tennis players in the world.

The WTA 1000 series was introduced in 2021, replacing the previous Premier Mandatory and Premier 5 categories that started in 2009. In 2024, 10 WTA events are taking place, namely the BNP Paribas Open, the Miami Open, the Madrid Open, the Italian Open, the Canadian Open, the Cincinnati Open, the China Open, the Wuhan Open, the Qatar Open, and the Dubai Tennis Championships.

Since its inception, the WTA series has witnessed many remarkable performances and achievements by some of the best players in the history of women’s tennis. This article will rank the top five players with the most matches played in the WTA 1000 tournaments main draws.

5: Agnieszka Radwańska (249 matches)

The Polish star Agnieszka Radwańska is the fifth player with the most WTA 1000 main draw matches, with 249 appearances. She retired in 2018, but her legacy remains in the top five list. She won five WTA 1000 titles and reached three finals. She was victorious at the China Open twice, and once each at the Wuhan Open, the Miami Open, and the Canadian Open.

4: Simona Halep (257 matches)

The Romanian sensation Simona Halep is the fourth player with the most WTA 1000 main draw matches, with 256 participations. She has a remarkable career record of 70.0% in the singles category. She has won nine WTA 1000 titles and finished as the runner-up in nine others. She has also won two Grand Slam titles, the French Open in 2018 and Wimbledon in 2019.

Her WTA 1000 triumphs include three victories at the Canadian Open, and two each at the Dubai Open and the Madrid Open, as well as one victory each at the Indian Wells Open and the Italian Open.

The Danish star Caroline Wozniacki is the third player with the most WTA 1000 main draw matches, with 264 appearances. She has won six WTA 1000 titles and reached as many finals. She also won the Australian Open in 2018, her only Grand Slam title. Her first WTA 1000 title was at the Canadian Open in 2010. She also won the China Open twice, and once each at the Dubai Open, the Indian Wells Open, the Canadian Open, and the Wuhan Open.

2: Victoria Azarenka (271 matches)

The Belarusian star Victoria Azarenka is the second player with the most WTA 1000 main draw matches, with 266 participations. She recently climbed to this position after playing a match against Arantxa Rus in the Round of 64 at the 2023 Dubai Open. She has won seven WTA 1000 titles and finished as the runner-up in four others.

She has also won two Grand Slam titles, the Australian Open in 2012 and 2013. Her first WTA 1000 title was at the Miami Open in 2009. She also won the Dubai Open and the Miami Open twice, and once each at the Indian Wells Open, the Cincinnati Open, and the China Open.
