Aryna Sabalenka won her first Miami Open title.
Aryna Sabalenka recorded her eighteenth career title, and first ever in Miami. The Belarusian extended her dominance against Jessica Pegula, beating the American in straight sets. Sabalenka’s campaign was not easy, yet she performed brilliantly and won her first Miami title.
She defeated defending champion Danielle Collins in the round of 16, Qinwen Zheng in the quarter-final, Jasmine Paolini in the semis, and finally Pegula in the final. Sabalenka looked dominant all season but fell short in the final twice, against Madison Keys in the Australian Open and Mirra Andreeva at the Indian Wells Open.
Aryna Sabalenka snapped her two-match final losing streak in Miami, reclaiming her winning form with a commanding performance. This win solidified his dominance and also his position at the top of the rankings, making the No. 1 spot de facto his.
For Pegula, it was a similar story to that of the US Open. The American came close in the first set and lost her fourth straight set with the scoreline reading 7-5 against the World No. 1. In the second set though, she was crushed by the hard-hitting Belarus, resulting in another defeat in a final for the fourth seed.
