World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka moved into the fourth round at the Miami Open on Saturday after Elena-Gabriela Ruse retired with an injury. Sabalenka had wrapped up the first set, 6-1 when Ruse signalled an end to the proceedings. In her opening round, top-seed Sabalenka made short work of Viktoriya Tomova, beating the Bulgarian in just 58 minutes.  

Collins, a Florida native was tested by Swiss qualifier Rebeka Masarova in their third-round matchup. The plucky Masarova, who was making her Miami Open main draw debut stretched the defending champion to three sets. Collins had to work hard to secure a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win, which took 2 hours and 24 minutes to complete.

The 31-year-old Danielle Collins will clash with her nemesis, Aryna Sabalenka, for a spot in the last eight. Collins is yet to defeat Sabalenka in any of their six meetings at WTA events. Collins’ sluggish start to the season could hamper her chances of progress at home. Sabalenka has also enjoyed near-complete dominance over Collins in WTA 1000 events, losing just one set to the American in three meetings at this level.
