This will be a rematch of the Brisbane International final earlier this year, where Sabalenka came from behind to defeat Kudermetova 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 and lift the trophy.

On the other hand, the 22-year-old Kudermetova is making second appearance at the Flushing Meadows. She booked her spot in the second round after her opponent Nuria Parrizas-Diaz retired mid-match, with the score at 2-2 in the opening set.

The Russian reached her first-ever WTA final in Brisbane earlier this year. She is yet to seal her maiden WTA title. However, Polina owns nine ITF singles titles. She achieved a career-high ranking of No. 54 in April 2025.

This will be the second career meeting between Sabalenka and Kudermetova. Their head-to-head currently stands at 1-0 in favour of Sabalenka.
