Jannik Sinner was the runner up in ATP Finals 2023.

Jannik Sinner has been the best player in the 2023 season of the ATP tour across all events. His consistent results saw him become the first player to qualify for the ATP Finals 2024. He is now looking to be the first Italian to win the singles title in the event. Sinner made the cut on August 10 after defeating Alejandro Tabilo in the fourth round of the Canadian Open. He is competing in the season ending championship for the third consecutive year.

The Italian made his debut in the ATP Finals in 2021 as an alternate player. He replaced fellow country men Matteo Berrittini who withdrew mid-match in his opening clash against Alexander Zverev due to an abdominal injury. Sinner won the match against Hubert Hurkacz but lost the next one to Daniil Medvedev. He could not qualify for the season ending event in 2022.

The 2023 season witnessed Sinner record four wins on the trot to reach the summit clash of the ATP Finals. He lost to Novak Djokovic in the final after having defeated him in the group stage. Sinner became the first Italian to reach the singles final. The 2024 season could see Sinner make history by lifting the trophy in front of his home crowd.

The world No #1 is part of the Ilie Nastase group alongside arch rival Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur.

Jannik Sinner begins ATP 2024 campaign with resounding win

Sinner recorded a masterclass performance in his opening match of ATP Finals 2024. He defeated Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 25 minutes. It was his eighth consecutive win over the Australian in as many meetings. Minaur has only won a set in their clashes so far which began in the summit clash of Next Gen ATP Finals in 2019.

The 23-year-old smashed eight aces and hit 18 winners at the indoor hardcourts of Inalpi Arena in Turin, Italy. Sinner was seen on court for the first time in almost a month as he had last played in the Six Kings Slam. His previous ATP tour match was in the final of Shanghai Masters last month.

Sinner did not need time to get in form on court and ensured the perfect start to the event. He is next expected to face Taylor Fritz in the second group stage match. Sinner has won two matches in three against the American. The fans will be waiting for the group stage encounter between Sinner and Medvedev as the pair will face for the 15th time on tour. Sinner will seek his eight win against the Russian.
