Top five players who have withdrawn from ATP Halle Open 2025

Last year’s finalist Hubert Hurkacz, will miss the event.
The Halle Open 2025, officially known as the Terra Wortmann Open, is a men’s tennis tournament played on outdoor grass courts. Marking its 32nd edition, it is part of the ATP 500 series on the 2025 ATP Tour. The event will be held from 16 to 22 June 2025 at the OWL Arena in Halle, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Jannik Sinner returns to action at the Halle Open 2025 after a heartbreaking five-set loss in the French Open 2025 final but remains World No. 1 and the tournament favorite, especially in Carlos Alcaraz’s absence. Second seed Alexander Zverev, fresh off a Stuttgart final, and third seed Daniil Medvedev, desperate to find form ahead of Wimbledon, headline the contenders.
Fourth seed Andrey Rublev opens against Sebastian Ofner, while 2024 finalist Hubert Hurkacz faces Tomas Machac. Unseeded Stefanos Tsitsipas and rising star João Fonseca also feature, while Alexander Bublik is one to watch after an impressive run in Paris. Here’s a look at the top five players who’ve pulled out of the Halle Open 2025.
5. Zhang Zhizhen
Zhang Zhizhen has been ruled out of the 2025 Halle Open, continuing a difficult season marked by poor form and inconsistency. Aside from a standout win over Hubert Hurkacz at the Open 13, he has failed to progress past the opening round in any other tournament this year.
His last appearance saw a first-round exit to Gabriel Diallo at the Indian Wells Open, and he hasn’t played an event since.
4. Alejandro Tabilo

Alejandro Tabilo withdrew from the Halle Open, with no specific reason publicly detailed, likely due to injury or strategic scheduling before Wimbledon. The Chilean tennis player had suffered an injury setback a few months before, but took part in Roland Garros, losing to Alexei Popyrin in the second round.
He missed the recently concluded Libema Open, and Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik set to take his place, adding a sense of excitement to the field.
3. Tallon Griekspoor
Tallon Griekspoor has withdrawn from the 2025 Halle Open for unspecified reasons, possibly related to fitness or scheduling decisions ahead of Wimbledon. French player Quentin Halys was the lucky loser, entering the main draw to fill the vacancy left by Griekspoor.
The Dutch player will now only have one pre-Wimbledon grass-court tournament: the Mallorca Open, scheduled a week later.
2. Hubert Hurkacz

Hubert Hurkacz announced his last-minute withdrawal from the 2025 Halle Open, first from doubles, and then from singles as well, where he was scheduled to face Tomas Machac. The Pole was a runner-up last year, losing to top seed Jannik Sinner in the final.
Hurkacz’s decision was reportedly due to a minor injury or scheduling considerations as he manages his preparation for Wimbledon. Hurkacz has put in solid performances in previous outings on grass, including a semi-final appearance in Halle in 2021 and a win over Roger Federer at Wimbledon, the former world No. 6 will be hoping to be fully fit ahead of the marquee event.
1. Arthur Fils
Arthur Fils withdrew from the Halle Open due to a stress fracture sustained during the third round of Roland Garros. He decided to delay his return to competition and focus on recovery, aiming to be fit for Wimbledon despite no grass-court preparation.
Belgian player Zizou Bergs replaced Fils in the main draw, taking his spot in the ATP 500 event. Fils’ withdrawal raised doubts about his readiness for the grass season, including the prestigious Wimbledon championship.
