Alcaraz’s triumph reduces the deficit between him and Sinner at the top of ATP rankings.

Carlos Alcaraz ticked off another ATP Masters title in unusual fashion as World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, down with sickness, which forced him to forfeit midway through the battle. While the Spaniard claimed his maiden title in Cincinnati, Sinner could not find the court from the very first point.

As a result, Sinner lost 350 points which has weakened his hold at the top of the rankings. Alcaraz on the other, is getting closer and closer to the Italian, as the race to the top intensifies ahead of the US Open. Top seed Sinner confirmed his spot in the year-end ATP finals, following his campaign in Cincinnati.

Andrey Rublev fell to #15 after going down in the quarters, while Frances Tiafoe bowed out of the top-20. Similarly, Holger Rune’s quarter-final exit marked his fall from the top-10 rankings as well, with Lorenzo Musetti and Karen Khachanov making gains, despite no splendid heroics in Cincinnati.

Térence Atmane was the story of the tournament, as he climbed 66 spots and earned 413 extra points, to reach a career high ranking of #69. The Frenchman stunned Fritz and Rune, on his way to a maiden semi-final Masters outing.
