The 2024 Barcelona Open has commenced and will end on April 21, as the ATP 1000 Matua Madrid Open is scheduled to start on April 24. The event was founded in 1953, and the 79th edition of the Barcelona Open is currently taking place in the Catalan city.

The ATP 500 event is played at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona, also known as the Royal Barcelona Tennis Club. Moreover, the centre court of the tennis club was named “Pista Rafa Nadal” after 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in 2017.

The Barcelona Open is an ATP 500 event; however, it still has huge significance in the clay season. Last year, Carlos Alcaraz lifted the Silverware in Barcelona. Nevertheless, the Spaniard has already withdrawn from the tournament due to fitness concerns. A total of 48 players take part in the main draw of the singles event, while in the men’s doubles, 16 pairs contest for the top prize.

Rafael Nadal is the most successful tennis star in the event’s history. The King of Clay has won 12 titles in Barcelona, and he also has an unparalleled winning record of 67-4 in the ATP 500 event. After Nadal, Roy Emerson, Manuel Orantes, and Mats Wilander have won three singles titles each in the Catalan city. Emerson has won seven titles in men’s doubles with different partners.
