Top four players who have withdrawn from Barcelona Open 2025

Lorenzo Musetti was forced to withdraw from the Barcelona Open 2025 due to an injury.
ATP Barcelona Open will witness top names like two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud, Lorenzo Musetti, and Stefanos Tsitsipas take the field. The competition follows the Monte Carlo Masters, which Alcaraz won to retain the second spot on the WTA rankings.
However, with the event clashing with the ATP Munich Open, players like Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton have opted for the latter. Fitness concerns and injuries have also led to several withdrawals. Here’s a look at the top four notable players who’ve pulled out of the Barcelona Open 2025.
4. Lorenzo Sonego
Lorenzo Sonego began the clay season at Monte Carlo with a three-set defeat in the opening round. The Italian has not missed any significant competition so far this year, raising questions about his decision to leave Barcelona.
Sonego was replaced by Tomás Martín Etcheverry, who lost his first round to Alex de Minaur.

3. Jordan Thompson
In a last-minute decision, Jordan Thompson withdrew from the ATP Barcelona Open. After the Australian Open, Thompson announced he would take a break from tennis because of struggles with a calf strain. Thompson returned to Indian Wells and played three other tournaments since then.
It’s unclear whether the injury has resurfaced or if it’s a different issue altogether. Jacob Fearnley, who Daniel Elahi Galan defeated in qualifying, took Thompson’s place.
2. Tomas Machac
Tomas Machac showed injury concerns in Miami after handing over a walkover to his opponent in the round of 16 contest. Though the Czech competed in Monte Carlo, he opted out of his men’s doubles clash, indicating signs of an injury.
The speculation was confirmed when Machac withdrew from the Barcelona event. Damir Dzumhur, who lost to Cameron Norrie in the final round of qualifying, replaces Machac. The Bosnian previously reached the French Open third round in 2015 and 2018.

1. Lorenzo Musetti

Lorenzo Musetti put a sluggish start to the season behind him with a stunning run to the Monte Carlo Masters final, defeating the likes of two-time champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alex de Minaur, Matteo Berrettini, and Jiri Lehecka.
Just a set away from claiming the title, Musetti’s hopes were dashed by a thigh injury that hampered his performance. Unfortunately, the same injury has now forced him to withdraw from the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona.
