Jannik Sinner was eliminated in the Wimbledon quarterfinals by Daniil Medvedev.

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner recently took to social media and announced that he won’t participate in the 2024 Bastad Open. He was expected to enter the tournament as the top seed.

Jannik Sinner was among the top favorites to win the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. However, the top seed was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in five sets. The scoreline read 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-3, as the match ended after almost four hours.

During the post-match press conference, Jannik Sinner revealed that he hadn’t feeling well since the morning of the matchday. He also revealed that he was feeling exhausted, and that made it difficult for him to play against Medvedev.

Nevertheless, after only a day of the loss, the ATP World No. 1 has revealed that he won’t be playing in the upcoming Bastad Open, scheduled from July 15 to 21. He took to Instagram and uploaded a story in which he stated that his medical team had advised him to rest ahead of the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.

His Instagram story read, “I’m sad to have to withdraw from Bastad next week due to fatigue. Never an easy decision as I would love to play, but following the advice from my team and doctors they have advised it’s best to take some time to rest and recover. I hope to play Bastad in the future, I’ve heard it’s a great tournament.”

Jannik Sinner also missed the 2024 Italian Open due to a hip injury. His medical team wanted to avoid any chances of the injury becoming chronic. The Italian tennis star has won four ATP titles this year. In addition to that, he’s also the first and only tennis player to become ATP World No. 1.

Spain’s Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz are also expected to take part in the clay court tournament. Nadal, who slipped the whole grass season and the 2024 Wimbledon, is currently preparing for the Paris Olympics. He will be playing men’s doubles alongside Norwegian tennis star Casper Ruud at the 2024 Bastad Open.

Meanwhile, he will team up with compatriot Carlos Alcaraz at the Paris Olympics for the doubles event. Recently, he was spotted practicing at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Greece.
