Trinity Rodman has spent the summer as the most recognisable face in Ben Shelton‘s box, but reducing her to “Ben Shelton’s girlfriend” undersells one of the most accomplished young athletes in American women’s soccer.
Born in Newport Beach, California, Rodman started playing the game at just four years old, and by the time she turned 18, she was already rewriting record books. In the 2021 NWSL Draft, the Washington Spirit picked her second overall, making her the youngest player ever selected in league history.
Her rookie campaign ended with an NWSL Championship, plus the league’s Rookie of the Year award and US Soccer’s Young Female Player of the Year honour.
The trophies kept coming after that. Rodman won the 2022 CONCACAF W Championship and the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup with the US women’s national team, along with the SheBelieves Cup in multiple years. She earned her first senior United States women’s national soccer team (USWNT) cap in 2022 and became one of the youngest Americans in years to score for the national side.

In 2023, she made her World Cup debut, and the following year she reached the biggest stage of all at the Paris Olympics, where she scored three goals and helped the USA claim gold.

Rodman and Shelton first sparked dating rumours in March 2025, when the pair joined a TikTok trend that had fans speculating they were “shooting their shot” at each other.
It didn’t take long for things to go public. Shelton made it official later that month, posting a mirror selfie with Rodman on Instagram.

What has followed since has been a steady stream of courtside and sideline appearances for each other. Rodman flew overnight from a Washington Spirit match in California to catch Shelton’s opening-round win at the 2025 US Open, a gesture he shouted out from the court afterwards.
She has regularly shown up at his matches in custom merchandise, from personalised pants bearing his name to a “BEN 10” tank top when he won in Stuttgart, and returned to the 2026 US Open in an “I love my boyfriend” T-shirt as he chases another deep run.
Shelton has returned the favour too, turning up at Spirit matches in DC and crediting her presence for some of his best form, joking that he won a title at nearly every tournament she attended this season.
Their relationship has also had to deal with the reality of two demanding professional calendars pulling them in different directions, with both admitting the travel and competing schedules make consistent time together difficult.

Yet, for all the attention their relationship draws, Rodman has been vocal about wanting her career judged on its own terms. She is, after all, also the daughter of NBA legend Dennis Rodman, a connection she has repeatedly said shouldn’t define her.
Just as she has pushed back on being seen only through her father’s shadow, Rodman’s story shouldn’t be told only through Shelton’s spotlight either. An Olympic gold medallist, a record-breaking draft pick, and a genuine star of the NWSL and USWNT in her own right, she has built a career substantial enough to stand entirely on its own.
