List of British players who have reached top 5 of ATP rankings

Jack Draper is the latest British player to reach the top 5 in the ATP Rankings.
British tennis appears to be reliving its glory days once again, with Jack Draper making his mark as a worthy challenger to the favourites. Emerging from the country that hosts Wimbledon, the most traditional and prestigious of the four Grand Slams, Draper’s presence in the ATP Top 5 is testament to the rise of British tennis.
Here are the four Englishmen who have reached the top 5 of the ATP rankings:
Greg Rusedski – 1997
Greg Rusedski broke new ground for British tennis players in the ATP tour by becoming the first Briton to breach the top five barrier. Rusedski rose to become the World No. 4 in October 1997, having made the top ten in the previous month.
Originally from Canada, Rusedski reached six finals in the 1997 season and won two titles. His championship-round appearances included the US Open that year, where he lost to Australian Pat Rafter. He spent 23 weeks among the top five and 84 weeks as a top ten player.

Tim Henman – 1999
Tim Henman first entered the ATP top five in July 1999, the year he made the Wimbledon semi-finals for the second time. Despite being unable to provide the local fans with a homegrown champion at SW19, he rose to a career-high of World No. 5 the week following the conclusion of the 1999 edition.
In 2002, Henman reached a career-high ranking of World No. 4 after his fourth semi-final at Wimbledon. The Briton remained among the top five for 47 weeks and an impressive 243 weeks among the top ten.
Andy Murray – 2008
Andy Murray will be known as the man who carved a niche for himself in the era of ‘The Big 3.’ He reached the ATP top five in September 2008 and reached the top spot for the first time after an eight-year wait in November 2016.
In 2013, Murray became the first homegrown champion at Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936. Murray went on to win his second SW19 trophy in 2016.
The Scotsman is the only player from the United Kingdom to rank No. 1 in singles in the Open Era. He remained in the top five for 281 weeks and finished among the ATP top five between 2008 and 2014.
Jack Draper – 2025

Jack Draper defeated Matteo Arnaldi in the quarter-final and an in-form Lorenzo Musetti in the semi-final at the Madrid Open 2025. His win over Arnaldi assured the left-hander of a top-five debut in the ATP Ranking. Draper will play his second ATP 1000 final of the season and his first on clay following his Indian Wells title run in March this year.
Draper is only the fourth British player to make it onto this exclusive list and only the second left-handed player to be ranked in the ATP’s top 5 this century, after Rafael Nadal. He also moves to second place in the Race to Turin ahead of Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner.
