Davidovich Fokina is set to take on Carlos Alcaraz in an all-Spanish semi-final.

Carlos Alcaraz was made to dig deep against a resilient Arthur Fils to remain the sole survivor among the top five seeds at the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters. The Spaniard had to rally back from trailing 1-3 in the decider before winning 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.  The result saw Alcaraz prevail in his first-ever head-to-head against Fils to make his semi-final debut in Monaco. 

Fils began strongly and took the first set after 50 minutes aided by a break of serve in the ninth game. It was an error-strewn match with a total of 94 unforced errors recorded. Unfortunately for the Frenchman, he made 53 of those to 41 by Alcaraz.

The second-seed Alcaraz’s reliable serve appeared to desert him as he made seven double faults, four in the opening set alone. The 21-year-old Alcaraz reduced his errors in the next two sets and won in two hours and 23 minutes.

Alcaraz and Alejandro Davidovich will slug it out in the all-Spanish affair with the winner advancing to the final for the first time. It will be the first time two Spaniards are slated to square off in the last four at the venue since Rafael Nadal took on David Ferrer in the 2010 semi-finals.   

Fokina will be looking to make his second Monte-Carlo Masters final when he takes on his countryman in their second tour-level meeting. The 25-year-old Fokina was an unseeded finalist in 2022, where he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

World No. 42 Fokina was impressive as he eased past Australian Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 6-2. His 18th tour-level win of 2025 came in just 69 minutes and prevented Popyrin from joining Alex de Minaur in the last four.

Alcaraz and Fokina are a match win away from recording their best result at the venue when they square off on Monte Carlo clay. The battleground is Court Rainier III in the first singles semi-final of the day. 

Fokina is close to making his third final of the 2025 season after Acapulco and Delray Beach. Standing in his way is five-time ATP 1000 title winner and fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. The 21-year-old Alcaraz will now play his 10th Masters 1000 semi-final on Saturday and is 15-1 on clay courts since the 2024 French Open.

In the other semi-final, Alex de Minaur and Lorenzo Musetti will battle for a chance to play on Sunday. The two made the last four in contrasting style, with de Minaur registering a stunning 6-0, 6-0 win over Grigor Dimitrov while Musetti came back to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 against defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas.

A third is within reach when he takes on Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the last four. The World No. 3 is close to making a title-round appearance in Monte Carlo for the first time. If he wins, he will be the first Spanish finalist since Fokina, who received the honor in 2022.

Carlos and Alejandro have 18 wins each this year, and the upcoming semifinal clash will break that tie, as well as ensure a Spaniard in the final. Alcaraz and Fokina will face each other for the first time since Alcaraz won 7-6 (5), 6-4 in Barcelona two years ago.
