Alcaraz is coming into the US Open in absolutely excellent form. Just before the tournament, he won the Cincinnati Masters 1000 facing Jannik Sinner in the final who retired mid-match.
On the other hand, Mattia Bellucci, ranked No. 65, reached the second round after Juncheng Shang retired in their match at 7-6(0), 1-6, 6-3, 3-0. Bellucci’s best result at the US Open is reaching the second round in 2024. He will look to improve on that this year, although he faces a tough challenge in the form of Alcaraz.
Bellucci has yet to win an ATP Tour-level title, but he has enjoyed success on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning four singles titles, and on the ITF World Tennis Tour, where he claimed six titles.
This will be the second meeting between Alcaraz and Bellucci. The Spaniard leads the head-to-head 1-0, with their previous encounter coming at the M15 Manacor in 2020, where Alcaraz went on to win the title.
