The WTA 500 tournament will take place from April 1-7.

The Charleston Open, a WTA 500 event on the Hologic WTA Tour, is the sole clay court event in the United States. The singles draw features 48 players, including World No.5 Jessica Pegula, defending champion Ons Jabeur, and Charleston native Emma Navarro.

The draw also features former champions Madison Keys, Sloane Stephens, and Daria Kasatkina. Danielle Collins – the newly crowned Miami Open champ, will also grace the courts at Charleston. Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabeur and Maria Sakkari are the top seeds at the week-long event.

Miami Open quarterfinalist Ekaterina Alexandrova and semifinalist Victoria Azarenka will also turn up. Caroline Wozniacki, winner here in 2011, will be up against Anhelina Kalinina and look to avenge her loss in Miami to the Ukrainian.

The top 10 seeds have received byes into the second round. Top seed Pegula completed her round of 32 match against Amanda Anisimova and is the first of the top five seeds to reach the third round. She will now meet Poland’s Magda Linette for a spot in the quarterfinals. Ekaterina Alexandrova faces Taylor Townsend, while Victoria Azarenka will play Elisabetta Cocciaretto in their second-round games.

Alexandrova enjoyed a good run in Miami, reaching the semifinals after taking out Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula in back-to-back matches. Local player Emma Navarro returns to her home turf as a top 20 player. She rounds off the top ten seeds at the Charleston Open. Navarro plays unseeded American Katie Volynets after her victory over Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands.

Defending champion Ons Jabeur (2) is the highest seed in the bottom half of the draw. She has been a finalist in 2022 and 2023, on both occasions against Belinda Bencic. Ons Jabeur took the trophy last year with a 7-6(6), 6-4 win over defending champion Belinda Bencic. Jabeur will welcome the return of the clay court leg of the WTA Tour. The World No. 6 took the title last season without dropping a set.

The Tunisian faces a tough opening round against Danielle Collins. Collins climbed 31 spots this week to World No. 22 following her maiden triumph at Miami last week, where she clinched her maiden WTA 1000 title.

Giving Jabeur company in the bottom half of a challenging draw are No.3 seed Sakkari, No.5 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, No.7 seed Elina Svitolina and No.9 seed and 2021 champion Veronika Kudermetova. With the quality of opponents standing in the way of a second consecutive final, the Tunisian will have to give it her all if she is to add another trophy to her cabinet.
