The Cincinnati Open 2024 marks a continuation of the North American tennis calendar. The players return to the USA for their first combined ATP and WTA 1000 event on American soil since the Miami Open in March of this year.
The Cincinnati Open is set to expand its player pool, with plans to increase the number of participants in the ATP and WTA singles fields from 64 to 96 players by the 2025 edition. This year, the tournament will proceed without its reigning men’s champion, Novak Djokovic, who has opted to skip the event and will instead compete at the US Open in Flushing Meadows later this month.
Djokovic won last year’s final in a dramatic match against Carlos Alcaraz, where he came back from the brink of defeat to secure the title in the longest best-of-three final on the ATP Tour since 1990.
On the women’s side, last year’s champion Coco Gauff will aim to bounce back after a surprising early exit at the Canada Masters, where she was defeated by 19-year-old Russian Diana Shnaider. Gauff, who made history last year as the youngest Cincinnati Open champion in the Open Era at just 19, will look to regain her form.
In doubles, Argentine pair Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni took home the men’s title last year, while Americans Alycia Parks and Taylor Townsend claimed victory in the women’s doubles.

The tournament has reverted to its original name, the Cincinnati Open, after being known as the Western & Southern Open from 2002 to 2023. The event is expected to see some new faces making a mark, following surprising performances in recent tournaments. Roger Federer holds the record for the most singles titles in Cincinnati with seven, while Andy Roddick remains the last American to win the tournament, having done so in 2006
