Top 13 players who have withdrawn from Cincinnati Open 2025

Novak Djokovic will not play in any tournament between Wimbledon and the US Open.
The final preparation step for the US Open is now upon us, in extremely proximity to the Canadian Open. A stronger lineup greets tennis fans, as reigning champions Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka, alongside Carlos Alcaraz, return. However, the list of absentees remains high-profile.
While some big names have been added to the list, several other stars have been struggling with injuries, resulting in them being out of the game for long periods. On that note, let’s take a look at the top 13 players who have pulled out of the Cincinnati Open 2025.
Players who have withdrawn from Cincinnati Open 2025-
13. Gael Monfils
After suffering early exits in his US Open warm-up events, French star Gaal Monfils has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open, citing pain in his left wrist, according to L’Équipe. Following a second-round loss at Wimbledon, Monfils’ struggles continued with first-round exits at both the Washington Open and the Canadian Open. Now, the 38-year-old is expected to participate at the US Open 2025.
12. Victoria Mboko
Canadian Open 2025 champion Victoria Mboko has also withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open due to a wrist injury sustained during her semifinal match against Elena Rybakina in Montreal. The 18-year-old sensation played the final against Naomi Osaka with her wrist strapped, yet still managed to clami her maiden WTA 1000 title at home, defeating the former World No. 1 in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
“I’m not planning on playing Cincinnati at the moment. I just want to take care of my wrist a little bit right now, and I think it’s just very close and sudden for me to go there and play again I think in, like, two days,” she said in the post match interview.

11. Naomi Osaka
After an emotional run at the Canadian Open 2025, where Naomi Osaka fell to home favourite Victoria Mboko in the WTA 1000 final, the Japanese star has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open. The two-time US Open champion is taking a break to regroup ahead of her campaign at Flushing Meadows.
Osaka was scheduled to face No. 20 seed Linda Nosková of the Czech Republic in her opening match in Ohio, but she has now pulled out and is reportedly seeking a wild card entry into the US Open.

10. Sebastian Korda
Sebastian Korda has withdrawn from the 2025 Cincinnati Open due to a lingering stress fracture in his right shin—the same injury that kept him out of Wimbledon, forced him to skip his title defense in Washington, and ruled him out of the Toronto Masters. Currently ranked World No. 45, the American now hopes to recover in time for his home Grand Slam, the US Open.

9. Alexander Bublik
Alexander Bublik is fully fit, but it is not yet known why he is not participating in the Cincinnati Open. Having not played any hard-court tournaments, the Kazakh preferred clay courts and won two tournaments in a row. Bublik will now directly play at Flushing Meadows, having skipped the entire pre-US Open hard-court swing.
8. Ons Jabeur

Ons Jabeur has announced a break from tennis due to emotional and physical exhaustion. After two challenging years of injuries and personal struggles, she has taken a break.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, she shared that she no longer felt joy on court and needed time to heal. As a result, she will skip the North American swing and the US Open, following a disappointing season with just 15 wins in 31 matches. As a result, she is dropped to World No. 72.
7. Hubert Hurkacz

Hubert Hurkacz has not played a match since June 11, and his absence is due to a knee injury that even kept him away from Wimbledon. The Pole is expected to recover in time for the US Open, where he is expected to partner Donna Vekic. Having reached the quarter-finals last year at Cincinnati, he lost 200 points and is set to leave the top-40 ATP rankings.
6. Grigor Dimitrov

Grigor Dimitrov sustained a partial tear of his pectoralis major muscle during his Wimbledon fourth-round clash against Jannik Sinner, forcing him to retire mid-match despite being two sets up.
The injury is expected to keep him out for at least 90 days, ruling him out of Cincinnati as he targets a possible return in time for the US Open. Vít Kopřiva replaced the Bulgarian in the main draw.

5. Paula Badosa

Paula Badosa will stay out of action as she continues to recover from a psoas muscle tear sustained before Wimbledon. The lingering injury remains a concern for the Spaniard, who shared on Instagram that her focus is now on healing, with hopes of making a comeback by the US Open.
Having qualified for the semi-finals last year, Badosa will drop out of the top 15, losing 650 points. The Spaniard will be the worst-affected absentee, amongst all the withdrawals. Greet Minnen replaces her.
“Been disconnected for a while but wanted to update you on my situation right now. I’ve been going through some tough moments lately… Unfortunately, I’ve been dealing with a tear on my psoas since before Wimbledon, and it’s going to keep me out of competition for a few weeks…
“These are really challenging times for me, but I’m staying hopeful that things will turn around soon and the light at the end of the tunnel will start to shine through”, posted Badosa, on her Instagram story.
4. Qinwen Zheng

Qinwen Zheng will be missing several months of tennis action, as the Chinese continues to recover from the surgery she underwent following her Wimbledon exit. The blow will undoubtedly have an impact on her ranking, as Zheng is now also out of contention for the year-end Nitto Finals.
“Although I persisted through interventions, the impact of the pain persisted. After diagnosis by elbow specialists, they recommended to me and my team to complete minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery on the right elbow as soon as possible to thoroughly resolve the issue. “After careful discussion with my team, in order to return to the court in the best possible state as soon as possible, we decided that surgery was the best course. I completed the surgery yesterday, it went very smoothly, and I am in recovery”.
“In the coming period, I will focus my efforts on rehabilitation training, striving to return to the court at 100 percent as soon as possible. This brief adjustment is for a stronger comeback in the future. Thanks, everyone, for your support and patience. Please wait for me to return to full strength, we will meet on the court”, added the Chinese.
3. Jack Draper

British No. 1 Jack Draper has withdrawn from both the upcoming Masters 1000 tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati due to a left arm injury sustained after Wimbledon. Although the injury isn’t serious, the World No. 4 has opted for rest and recovery to ensure full fitness for the remainder of the season.
2024 quarter-finalist, Draper drops 200 points and moves further away from the fourth spot, which he owned until Wimbledon. He will be seen in action soon, though, slated to partner Paula Badosa for the mixed doubles at the US Open 2025.
2. Mirra Andreeva

Mirra Andreeva suffered a horrific accident during her first round match against McCartney Kessler when she twisted her ankle, resulting in her defeat.
The Russian was defending 200 points in Cincinnati and will suffer significant losses. Andreeva hopes that her injury is not too serious so that she can participate in the last Grand Slam of the year. Kimberly Birrell will replace Andreeva.
