Davis Cup Finals 2024: Updated schedule, fixtures, results, live streaming details
Italy will aim to defend its title at Davis Cup Finals 2024.
This year’s Davis Cup Finals, billed as the “World Cup of Tennis,” pits countries against each other for the 112th time in their run for top tennis honors. Italy is hoping to defend its title this year after their unexpected win last year. Italy defeated Australia in the final match, 2-0. It was only Italy’s second title, with their first victory way back in 1976. Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner led Italy to glory.
Australia had given a great run last year, too, beating some worthy opponents in Germany and the USA before falling to Italy in that final onslaught.
Created in 1900, the Davis Cup is the world’s largest annual team event in any sport. It puts national teams against each other to compete for bragging rights.
Over time, however, it has undergone subtle modifications regarding the way the tournament is run. Nowadays, teams vie in groups first, with the top eventually going to a knockout stage. Although Italy and Australia recently made some noise, the record is still held by the US at 32 Davis Cup wins. This is not too far from Australia, however, as they boast 28 championships to their name.
