Elena Rybakina vs Victoria Mboko prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Canadian Open 2025

Elena Rybakina vs Victoria Mboko will decide the first finalist in Montreal.

Elena Rybakina made the semi-finals in Montreal the easy way after Marta Kostyuk retired in the second set while trailing 6-1, 2-1 with a wrist injury. The 23-year-old was aiming for a spot in the last four of hard-court events for the first time before the injury dashed her hopes.

Rybakina, the No. 9 seed, advanced to her second semi-final at the WTA 1000 event, where she will take on Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko.

The Canadian is making the most of her wildcard and continued her Cinderella run against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain. The 18-year-old defeated Maneiro, 6-4, 6-2, to make her first WTA 1000 semi-final.

Mboko, who felled top seed Coco Gauff in straight sets on Saturday, will continue her impressive rise through the WTA Rankings when she enters the top 50 on Monday. She is the third wildcard to make the semi-finals at a major event after Alexandra Eala in Miami and Lois Boisson at Roland-Garros.

Preview

Canadian teen Mboko will be taking on former Wimbledon champion Rybakina in the biggest semi-final of her career. She will take on Rybakina, a former top-10 player, after knocking out Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in 67 minutes.

Mboko, who was far outside the top 300 at this time last season, gave the home crowd something to cheer about when she defeated the Spaniard to go up 1-0 in their first WTA meeting.

Rybakina overcame Dayana Yastremska from a set down to defeat the Ukrainian 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 in the fourth round. The Kazakh will be optimistic of her chances against Mboko as she edges closer to her second title of the season since winning the Strasbourg Open in May.

The exit of the top five seeds from the WTA 1000 event will boost Mboko and Rybakina’s hopes of a fruitful conclusion to the event.

Match prediction

Rybakina is now in her 10th WTA 1000-level semi-final, where she will face Mboko. The Kazakh holds the edge heading into a second meeting with the Canadian this month, having defeated Mboko in Washington last week.

Rybakina will know better than to underestimate Mboko in their semi-final clash. Gauff found out the hard way when she lost in straight sets to the 18-year-old from Toronto. Gauff, the top seed, had defeated Mboko in Rome, but could only watch as the tables were turned in Montreal.

The Canadian has over 50 wins this season, including those from the lower-tier ITF Tour, and reached her maiden tour-level final at the Parma Ladies Open in May.

While Mboko has her youthful intensity and the home crowd in her corner, Rybakina has plenty of experience in high-pressure situations. The Kazakh’s controlled aggression should be enough to halt Mboko’s Canadian Open campaign in its tracks.

Result: Elena Rybakina to win in straight sets.
