In the third round at Canadian Masters, Emma Raducanu will face fifth-seed Amanda Anisimova.
Emma Raducanu is into the third round of the 2025 Canadian Open after a dominant 6-4, 6-2 win over Peyton Stearns in the round of 64. But beyond the straight-sets victory, what remained special was the warm, almost overwhelming support she received in Montreal.
The crowd turned out in force, many waving Britain flags and cheering loudly for Raducanu. And there may be a deeper reason for that support: Raducanu was born in Toronto, so making her return to Canada possibly felt like something of a homecoming.
After the match, she was asked what message she had for the fans who came to support her. “Yeah, I just want to say thank you. I mean, I see the Union Jack, so thank you,” she said.
“I saw that in some clutch moments — and I was actually born in Canada — so to come back here, it just means so much to me,” she added.
The 22-year-old British tennis star, who will next face Amanda Anisimova, said she is “very happy to be into the next round and to feel that kind of support from the Montreal crowd really made it special.”
