Not Carlos Alcaraz, Emma Raducanu names this Tennis player as the smartest

Emma Raducanu names a legend as the smartest tennis player.
As the Washington Open comes to a close, fans were treated to a fun behind-the-scenes video where players named the smartest person they know in tennis, past or present.
These candid conversations offer a refreshing glimpse into players’ personalities and help deepen the connection between athletes and fans.
Smartness can be interpreted in many ways — from tactical intelligence on the court to wit and awareness off it, and even general personality traits beyond tennis. Interestingly, each player viewed the question through their lens, leading to a variety of unique and thoughtful responses.
Americans Ben Shelton and Emma Navarro both named Jessica Pegula as the smartest player, with Navarro noting, “She’s got a good head on her shoulders.” Interestingly, when Pegula was asked the same question, she picked fellow American Madison Keys, saying, “She has an answer for everything.”
Emma Raducanu, interestingly, named WTA legend Billie Jean King instead of her would-be doubles partner, Carlos Alcaraz. There has been speculation about her personal life since the announcement of 2025 US Open mixed doubles. However, the British player decided to play it safe by pressing dating allegations.
Additionally, since attending Carlos Alcaraz’s fourth-round match at Wimbledon, the former US Open champion has not been seen in the crowd for any of his subsequent matches—including the semi-final—despite being spotted just hours later on the same court for the Djokovic-Sinner clash.
Jannik Sinner was hailed as the smartest by his Italian counterpart Lorenzo Musetti, who hilariously added, “I don’t have to explain this.” Former US Open winner Daniil Medvedev also opined that the World No. 1 is the smartest, once again demonstrating the respect Sinner has amongst his colleagues.
As expected, Nick Kyrgios didn’t miss the chance to take a dig at Jannik Sinner. Reacting to the video, the Australian commented, “Sinner is an OUTRAGEOUS person to say right now.” Kyrgios was alluding to Sinner’s recent decision to rehire his former physio—someone previously accused of negligence, which allegedly led to the World No. 1’s three-month absence from the tour.
Kyrgios was also asked this question, and he claimed that Casper Ruud was the most intelligent and had done his job properly. On the other hand, Elena Rybakina named Wimbledon 2024 champion Barbora Krejcikova.
Holger Rune named his idol Novak Djokovic, remarking that the Serbian’s words off the court make him sound like the smartest out there in the tennis world. On the other hand, Hailey Baptiste was confused and named Serena Williams as the smartest, for the vast number of titles she has won across both singles and doubles.
