Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner? England cricketers choose their tennis favourite

Both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have advanced to the second round, the former surviving a scare.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are the new face of men’s tennis, especially after their record-shattering and pulsating final at Roland Garros just last month. The duo has established themselves at the two dominant forces in men’s tennis. Alcaraz, a five-time Grand Slam champion, enjoys a comfortable lead over his arch-rival and “friend” Sinner.
However, the Italian is no pushover and is himself a three-time Slam winner. Barring the ongoing Wimbledon, Sinner has played four tournament this season and reached the finals in three—including two Slam finals. In two of those, he did lose to Alcaraz. Fans are swayed over by these two, often leaving votes equally divided when it comes to picking their favourites.
Recently, members of the England men’s cricket team were asked the “Sinner or Alcaraz?” question in a humorous yet illuminating moment by BBC Cricket. While it is not clear in the now viral video, the cricketers were perhaps asked to pick their title favourite for the ongoing Wimbledon 2025.

The reactions were not all the same. Alcaraz was chosen right away by some players, who praised his explosive energy and unpredictable style of play. Sinner was favoured by others who described him as cool, collected, and methodical: qualities that are frequently admired on the cricket field. The players’ innate preferences were captured by the reel’s rapid-fire format.
Even though the reel was meant to be entertaining, it brought attention to the increasing camaraderie and respect among athletes from various sports. It’s not uncommon to see cricket players talking about or going to matches with their favourite tennis players as Wimbledon gets underway and tennis takes center stage worldwide.
Both Sinner and Alcaraz have expressed in interviews that they enjoy cricket’s strategic depth and follow it casually.
Fans engaged in a heated discussion about the reel in the comments section, with many offering their own selections and conjuring up amusing crossover scenarios. Some made jokes about matching tennis players with cricket players for doubles matches, while others just relished the unguarded glimpse into the dynamics of England’s cricket team’s dressing room.
These instances illustrate a shifting culture in which top athletes are not only rivals in their own games but also admirers of others, as sports increasingly conflate disciplines and social media brings athletes closer to their fans.
