Carlos Alcaraz is ready to return to tennis with a new hairstyle.

Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz‘s 2026 season has been unlike any other in his career. A right wrist injury forced him out of both the French Open and Wimbledon, a brutal blow for a player who has made those clay and grass swings his own in recent years.

Instead of chasing trophies, he spent the summer on the sidelines, though not entirely out of the spotlight, as he still turned up to hand over the trophy at the FIFA World Cup final and was seen celebrating with the Spanish national squad.

He’s now working his way back toward a return on tour, and his recent viral clip, in which he was seen practising the forehand, is a hopeful sign of positive things to follow.

The 23-year-old is currently expected to compete at the Cincinnati Open, ahead of the all-important US Open, with the Spaniard set to defend his title in both tournaments.

With less tennis to talk about, Alcaraz’s off-court style has taken over the conversation. He’s always liked switching things up with his hair before a big tournament, but this time he went further than usual.

He debuted a set of braids, a look that immediately drew comparisons to Bad Bunny, and fans couldn’t help pointing out the resemblance to hairstyles worn by artists like Drake, who’s sported similar braided looks himself.

It’s a sharp contrast to what fans saw from him around this time last year. Ahead of the US Open 2025, Alcaraz showed up with a severe buzzcut after his brother Alvaro had a mishap with the clippers, leaving him with no real choice but to shave it all off. From accidental bald to intentional braids, it has indeed been quite the transformation.

Reaction of fans to Carlos Alcaraz’s new haircut

The reaction online has been anything but gentle. Plenty of fans are calling it a step too far, others are defending his right to experiment, and a fair few are just here for the memes. Let’s take a look at some of the tweets that have gone viral on X.

The Spanish tennis star has never shied away from trying different hairstyles, and his new look has solidified his experimental stance. However, fans are eagerly waiting to see the 2026 Australian Open champion back on the tennis court.
