Top five fastest courts in tennis calendar

Indoor hard and grass courts are the fastest.
Tennis is a game of pace and precision. Interestingly, both factors are affected by multiple factors. These depend mainly on the surface; for example, indoor hard and grass courts are better when it comes to ball speed. Apart from this, the ranking also depends on the player.
For example, Jenson Brooksby, Kei Nishikori, and a few other players are infamous for their slow serves. On the other hand, Ben Shelton and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard have recorded one of the fastest serves on the tour in recent years. Thus, if a faster serve is played on a surface, it will automatically lead to better results.
Hard and grass surfaces are faster than clay because the ball doesn’t skid after bouncing. As a result, aggressive baseliners perform better on hardcourts, and players with all-court skill excel on the green surface. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the top five fastest courts in the tennis calendar (as per TennisEdge.io).
5. Dallas Open
The indoor hard court of the Dallas Open also favours fast servers, mostly Americans, with a service hold percentage of 85.9 per cent. One of the newest events on the tour, the competition takes place at the Ford Centre at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The courts in Texas offer an altitude of 170m with 0.77 aces per game.
4. Mallorca Championships
As already mentioned, the speed of a tennis court is primarily based on the speed of the players’ serve. Similarly, the Mallorca Championships, a grass court event on the land of the King of Clay, are played a week before the Wimbledon Championships.
The tournament was previously a WTA event but was later converted into an ATP event in 2021. It is one of only four events on the calendar where more than 75 percent of first serve points are won.
3. Halle Open
The first tournament of the grass season in the ATP calendar, the Halle Open, is also very popular. Played at the Gerry Weber Stadion, located in Halle, North Rhine-Westphalia, the competition is 32 years old. The ATP 250 event has a positive altitude of 120 m, and 75.7 per cent of the 1st serve points are won.
Grass courts provide speed to tennis stars, but they also have a certain drawback. The drawback of this court is that the green surface lacks bounce. Additionally, grass maintenance is costly and time-consuming.

2. Stuttgart Open
The Stuttgart Open is usually held in the first two weeks of June. Stuttgart contributes significantly to the players’ practice and development ahead of the Wimbledon Championships. Interestingly, it’s one of the fastest tennis courts on the tour.
According to the source, 76.7 percent of first serve points are won on the surface. The 250 ATP event is played at the Tennis Club Weissenhof, Stuttgart, which has a seating capacity of 6,500.
1. ATP Finals
The tennis courts at Palasport Olympico are the fastest on the tour. The ATP Finals are played on hardcourts in Turin, Italy, and the surface is rated as the fastest by all rankings. According to TennisEdge, 77.3 per cent of points are won on the first serve at the indoor hard surface.
Additionally, indoor hard courts offer faster serves due to the lack of natural disturbance or factors. Tennis players also hold approximately 87.8 per cent of serves at the court. Turin has been the venue of the ATP finals since 2021, and it will remain in its place until the upcoming edition.
