Top five wild predictions for US Open 2025

Djokovic and Rybakina winning would be incredibly unexpected at the US Open 2025.
US Open is the Slam for upsets, and 2024 was a reminder of that. Several top contenders including Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Coco Gauff bowed out of the event in the first week. The tournament is highly unpredictable, with the quick courts of New York known for producing some incredible results in the past.
As we look to 2025, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are heavy favourites in the men’s section. In the women’s division, Aryna Sabalenka’s lead at the top has been diminished due to Iga Swiatek’s recent heroics at SW19 and Cincinnati.
However, history has told us to expect the unexpected. So here are five wild predictions for the upcoming Grand Slam event.
5. Aryna Sabalenka will fail to retain her crown

Aryna Sabalenka has endured some tough defeats in 2025, including two Grand Slam title-clash defeats. It would be heavily disappointing for the Belarusian to thereby end the season without a single Grand Slam triumph under her belt, having been the most consistent player on WTA tour for the majority of the year.
With strong competition in the circuit, and Sabalenka slated to face Elena Rybakina in the quarters, the top seed fight fall short of her title defense in New York this year.

4. Alexander Zverev will reach the US Open 2025 final

Alexander Zverev started 2025 with an incredible campaign in Australia but has not registered any performance of substance since. The German is searching for an inspired comeback, and US Open 2025 could be his revival. A fairly easy draw greets him, with Alex de Minaur seeded to clash against Zverev in the quarter-finals.
Should Sinner suffer an early defeat, Zverev will fancy his chances of reaching the finals, as his biggest rivals in the form of Alcaraz, Djokovic and Fritz, are all drawn in the bottom section.
3. Elena Rybakina to claim her first US Open title

Elena Rybakina reached the final four at all three events of the North American swing yet returned without a trophy. The Kazakh is a one-time Grand Slam champion (Wimbledon 2022) and has failed to convert her potential into results in recent memory.
Seeded ninth currently, she stunned Madison Keys and Sabalenka in Cincinnati, with her brutal and ruthless game-style coming to the fore.
Rybakina serving well, and limiting unforced errors can be an absolute menance for even the best of opponents on the WTA tour. However, it feels about time that the Kazakh gets rewarded for her consistency, and 2025 could witness her crowning moment at a Championship where she has achieved minimal success in the past.

2. Novak Djokovic to win his 25th Grand Slam title

Novak Djokovic will have to contend with the promising American talent of Learner Tien in the opening round, and face some challenging opponents till the fourth round, who could create problems for the four-time US Open winner on the pacy courts at Flushing Meadows.
However, he will not face Sinner until the finals. The Italian has been the reason for the Serbian’s exit at the previous two major events, and Djokovic will certainly feel he has a better chance at reaching the finals this time around.
He will still have to potentially defeat Taylor Fritz and Carlos Alcaraz, but the Serbian had taken down the Spaniard in Australia earlier this year, giving him an excellent shot at rewinding the clock for possibly one final triumph, and claim his first Major title since two years.
1. No SinCaraz clash at US Open 2025 final

Wimbledon and Roland Garros were treated to blockbuster contests by the two best ATP players on tour currently. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are the overwhelming favourites to make the finals again, this time at the US Open, with their only meeting at the 2022 QF finishing in Alcaraz’s favour after five sets.
However, upsets are likely at US Open, and while these two men are extremely difficult to stop when in rhythm, we could possibly see at least one, or potentially both failing to go all the way. The Italian caught an illness at Cincinnati, and questions hover over his fitness for the all-important tournament.
When and where will US Open 2025 take place?
