Swiatek will take on first-time Roland-Garros finalist Paolini for a three-peat in Paris.
Iga Swiatek extinguished Coco Gauff’s hopes of reaching her first Roland-Garros final. In the other semi-final match, Jasmine Paolini ended Mirra Andreeva’s run at the French Open 2024.
World No.1 Iga Swiatek finds herself a win away from picking up her fourth French Open crown and third in a row, after a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Coco Gauff. It was deja vu for the American who has had to deal with the same result in 11 of her 12 career meetings with the Pole. It will be a consolation for Gauff when she debuted as the World No. 2 on Monday, breaking the Swiatek-Sabalenka duopoly on the top two positions in the PIF WTA Rankings.
Under the Paris skies on Court Philippe Chatrier, Swiatek completed the job in one hour and 37 minutes to get past the American. The Pole can pat herself on the back after stitching together three consecutive final appearances at the venue. The World No. 1 joins Justine Henin (2005-2007) and Maria Sharapova (2012-2014) as the third woman since 2000 to have reached this particular milestone.
Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, too, achieved a milestone of her own. She will become the third Italian woman in the Open Era to play for the French Open title. The other two Italian women to reach the championship round are Francesca Schiavone (2010, 2011) and Sara Errani (2012).
The No. 12 seed ended Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva’s stay in Paris with a 6-3, 6-1 win in Thursday’s semi-final. Saturday’s match against two-time defending champion Iga Swiatek will be her first Grand Slam final.

Iga Swiatek vs Jasmine Paolini – Preview
Swiatek further cements her place as World No. 1 after extending her undefeated run at Roland-Garros to 20-1. Now, only Paolini stands in the way of the Pole becoming the first player since Justine Henin (2005-2007) to win the women’s singles title three times in a row.
The 28-year-old Paolini, who claimed the biggest win of her career at the WTA 1000 event in Dubai earlier this season, has never made it past the second round at the French Open. Having reached the final, the Italian is assured of a spot in the top 10, with a ranking of No. 7 a certainty after Roland-Garros concludes. A win against Swiatek means Paolini will make her top five debut.
The Italian will have an opportunity to go one step further than her countrywomen Francesca Schiavone and Sara Errani, should she pull off a win against the title favourite. No Italian woman has lifted the title at Roland-Garros before.

Prediction
Iga Swiatek’s 34-2 record at Roland-Garros indicates her mastery on the clay courts of Paris. Something Paolini will have at the back of her mind as she chases her first Grand Slam title. Except for her close shave against Naomi Osaka, Swiatek has been untouchable over the fortnight.
The Pole is also on an 18-match winning streak since her loss to Elena Rybakina in April in Stuttgart. In Paris, Swiatek has made it to the final, dropping a solitary set in her second round face-off against Osaka. She also pocketed the quickest win of her career against a hapless Anastasia Potpova in just 40 minutes, without dropping a game.
Paolini saw off Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals, defeating the 2022 Wimbledon champion in just over two hours. Rybakina has been consistency personified in 2024, winning three titles, besides maintaining a 35-5 record.
While Paolini had it easy against Andreeva, playing Swiatek is a whole different ballgame. A Paolini win would be one of the biggest upsets on the Grand Slam stage. While the Italian has played confidently to reach this point, Swiatek absolutely dominates on clay. Any other outcome than a Swiatek win is unforeseeable.
Result: Swiatek to win in straight sets.
