Swiatek is seeking a third French Open title in four years.

Iga Swiatek has clearly brushed off the second-round scare from Naomi Osaka, as seen in her complete rout of Anastasia Potapova, 6-0, 6-0, in a mere 40 minutes at the French Open 2024 fourth round. It was by far the quickest win of the top seed’s career. Swiatek is poised to win her third French Open title in four years.

On a cool day, Swiatek put on a clinical display against the hapless Potapova. In one of the shortest matches in the history of the WTA Tour, Swiatek won 48 of 58 points and was not taken to deuce even once.

Swiatek became only the third player in the Open era to claim 6-0, 6-0 victories at Roland Garros in consecutive years. Gabriela Sabatini (1992-93) and Mary Pierce (1993-94) were the previous two players to accomplish that feat. In the 2023 season, Swiatek whitewashed Chinese player Wang Xinyu in the third round.

Iga Swiatek and Vondrousova will square off on Tuesday for a chance to progress to the semifinals. The Wimbledon champion held off qualifier Olga Danilovic and came from 4-1 down in the first set to win 6-4, 6-2. Vondrousova and Swiatek have not dropped more than a set en route to the last eight.

Iga Swiatek vs Marketa Vondrousova preview

All top four seeds in women’s singles have made it to the quarterfinals. Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina have made it comfortably. Swiatek did come uncomfortably close to an exit but has recouped strongly. Facing her in the semi-final is 2019 Roland Garros finalist Marketa Vondrousova. The 2019 final remains Vondrousva’s closest brush with victory in Paris.

It will either be Coco Gauff or Ons Jabeur, who will face Swiatek in the semifinals. Once past the semi-final hurdle, the Pole will be tantalizingly close to a third consecutive final of the season against Aryna Sabalenka. Swiatek was the victor on both previous counts in Madrid and Rome.

Head-to-head records

Playing on her favourite surface gives her an opportunity to extend her unbeaten run. Another clinical performance from the World No. #1 can be expected, this time at Vondrousova’s expense.

Result: Iga Swiatek to win in straight sets.
