Jannik Sinner has won the Australian Open, ATP Rotterdam, and Miami Open title this season.
Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner will likely miss the 2024 French Open due to the hip injury he sustained during the Madrid Open earlier this month.
Jannik Sinner has recently arrived at a clinic in Turin, where he is expected to stay until Wednesday. As per his doctors and medical staff, the Italian’s injury is not serious, but he should remain cautious.
The 22-year-old injured his right hip during the 2024 Madrid Open. Due to the injury, he was forced to withdraw from the quarter-final of the ATP 1000 event, where he was going to face Canada’s Felix Auger Aliassime.
Sinner later announced that he wouldn’t be playing in the Italian Open, and now his participation in the 2024 French Open is unlikely. The doctors want to prevent Sinner’s injury from becoming chronic, and as a result, the 22-year-old can miss the upcoming Roland Garros.
The Italian said during a recent press conference, “We will carefully evaluate my condition, if I have to stop more I will do it. I would like to play every day, all tournaments, because I love tennis. But the season is long and presenting myself unprepared for a Slam with long games on the five sets could be counterproductive”.
Hence, the 22-year-old might make his return at the Halle Open before the Wimbledon Championships. The grasscourt major is scheduled to start on June 17.
The ongoing ATP season has been filled with injuries. Rafael Nadal returned to action after a prolonged hiatus, and he’s uncertain to participate in the French Open. Additionally, Carlos Alcaraz has suffered from a forearm injury since last year.
Daniil Medvedev also suffered an injury during the Madrid Open; however, he’s currently looking fine in Rome. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic got struck by a metal water bottle at the Italian Open while he was signing autographs earlier this week. Concerning the accident, the Serb will undergo multiple medical tests.
